Artist's Comments

A digital painting based on a photo of Peter Gabriel circa 1974-75 (The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway) in his Rael costume/makeup. TLLDOB was done while he was still with Genesis, and involved some pretty fantastic costume changes... not the least of which involved him covering his face and torso with brown grease paint to portray the half-blood Puerto-Rican street kid Rael. This one took a tremendously huge amount of time, but I'm proud of it, so it's well worth it.

I'm a real Don Juan." And, straightening up, he put his hand on his hip, and with the hideous thing that was his head wobbling on his shoulders, he thundered, "Look at me! I'm Don Juan triumphant!"

In a way... Peter Hammill is a good friend of Peter Gabriel, and in 1975 he released his album Nadir's Big Chance, which is about one of Hammill's character, a character which is opposed to his usual art rock character, Nadir wants revolution or something... Johnny Rotten, famous for his "I hate Pink Floyd!" remark, has pointed at Nadir's Big Chance as an inspiration for his music later. So, in a weird streak of events, I'd say that the most original and unique prog/art rock artists ARE precursor to punk rock...
